Feral Goats
The wild billy goat is well breed on the property to carry shapely racks. And they are well-adapted to all of the most rugged terrain on the property. You will see them in places you wouldn’t dream of going. You’ll find World Class trophy billies on Jackals Hide but you have to be prepared to hike to get ‘em – ask about Pig Haven. But it’s no problem to find a 40 incher on the easier trails and along the creek and river flats. You should be pleased with the score you’ll achieve with a minimum of effort

Rusa Deer
The property holds both Fallow and Rusa deer. The Javan rusa is a deer native to the islands of Java, Bali and Timor. It occupies a habitat similar to that of the Chital and is a close relative of the larger sambar deer. Rusa deer are recognised by their large ears, the light tufts of hair above the eyebrows and antlers appearing too large for their body size.

- Conditions: NSW deer season applies and deer hunting is strictly prohibited during the closed season (1st November to 31st March). A NSW game licence (mininmum G-class) is required to hunt deer in NSW during the open season.

Fallow Deer
Two distinct breeds of fallow deer coexist on Jackals Hide; the Common Fallow (light brown with white spots) and Black Fallow, which are much larger in size/weight and darker in colour. Fallow are tricky to hunt outside the rut (April to May). They are nervous and flighty with ultra-keen senses. These are a favourite adversary of most hunters and we have substantial herds to choose from.

Wild Pigs
Wild pigs are quiet through the day. They generally bunk in and around the river drifts in their hidey holes but venture out in the evenings and also active in the early hours of the morning before the heat of the day sets in. There are some nice tusks out there and if you can beat their sense of smell a jaw/blade makes a great trophy!

Foxes
Foxes are readily found in cities and cultivated areas and (depending upon species) seem to adapt reasonably well to human presence. Red foxes have been introduced into Australia which lacks similar carnivores other than the dingo, and the introduced foxes prey on native wildlife, some to the point of extinction. So grab your fox whistles and call up a few reynards and help the native wildlife.

Wild Dogs
Jackals Hide carnivores including wild dogs, feral cats and foxes, give the bowhunter a real adversary that is elite and elusive. The wild dog is a particularly cunning quarry, with a excellent sense of smell and alertness. Wild dogs cause tremendous damage to live stock and native animals but are difficult to put down. You know you’re getting good when you start bagging these characters with a bow.

Fishing Natives
The (western) Murray River Cod, on Jackals Hide, are an Australian native. Under controlled conditions, they have been shown to grow almost one pound (0.4kg) per year. However, in natural conditions, Murray Cod can grow almost ½ pound (about 0.2kg) annually. Therefore, a 10lb Cod caught in these waters could be as much as 20 years old. Cod at Jackals Hide have been caught weighing up to 80lb – now that’s an old-man fish!
With your cooperation, these waters will continue to support good quality sport fish.

Feral Cats
Feral cats in Australia have been linked to the decline and extinction of various native animals. They have been shown to cause a significant impact on ground nesting birds and small native mammals. Feral cats have also hampered any attempts to re-introduce threatened species back into areas where they have become extinct as the cats have simply hunted and killed the newly released animals.
